L. S. Taplin is a native Louisianian and resident Texan. With a distinct, articulated lilt and rather genteel manner, her Deep South roots are the inextricable background of her life, her writing, and her day-to-day interactions. Some have characterized her as a charming "southern belle,” yet her view of self is as a multi-faceted woman who just happens to be from The South and who has inherited historical realities and myriad experiences during her life as a black woman in this locale. Through the lens of her Faith, L.S. Taplin has developed a penchant for searching out, labeling and emphasizing the commonalities of humanity in her writing.
An LSU alumna and English education major, with a graduate degree in Educational Leadership, L. S. Taplin has garnered numerous rich and rewarding experiences from teaching literature, literacy and composition writing. From her work in both urban and suburban school districts, she has earned many educator distinctions during her thirty year career as a high school English teacher and language arts specialist. Her desire is that among the academic multi-genre literature that is currently read by primary, intermediate and high school students as well as the literary selections of book club lovers, her own literary works will be among these, on library shelves and printed in English textbooks everywhere for the enjoyment and critical response of all.
L.S. Taplin remains intentional about using her literary works to provoke deeper thought and to stimulate more engaged, more impactful and more courteous conversations among people from starkly different backgrounds.
Society's own reflection in the proverbial mirror influences each storyline and each message found in L. S. Taplin's works. She sees the thoughts and comments that her readers provide as pixels in that reflected image. On this site, readers' thoughts and comments are encouraged and welcome for L.S. Taplin's response. Readers can leave their thoughts on the Contact the Author Page.
